Senior Treaty Underwriter 

based downtown Toronto 


Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and motivated Senior Underwriter to join their growing team. The Senior Underwriter will assist in underwriting a book of treaty business in the property reinsurance marketplace.  The position will target complex and structured products requiring the utilization of actuarial practices. In addition to having strong primary multi-line P&C experience with a focus in underwriting, the ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of actuarial modeling techniques. This position will report directly to the Chief Agent and Chief Underwriting Officer.  


Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain client and broker relationships 
  • Perform underwriting audits of client files
  • Market to senior level clients and brokers 
  • Evaluate client financial objectives
  • Perform in-depth statistical analyses
  • Assess and analyze specific reinsurance treaties (Aggregate, per risk, structured, multi-year and others) with actuarial techniques
  • Negotiate contracts and assure profitability of business written
  • Report to the steering committee at underwriting meetings
  • Collaborate to develop and drive change within the group
  • Frequent contact with staff and technical support unit, to clarify and obtain information

Required Education/Experience 

  • College or university degree in mathematics or actuarial science strongly preferred 
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in property and casualty reinsurance
