Underwriting Discipline

  • Underwrite to GCF’s Expected Profit targets
  • Contribute to the GCF goal of growing Underwriting Profits
  • Understand and apply departmental underwriting philosophy, rules and guidelines
  • Utilize the Referral Desk and LOB Underwriters and available underwriting resources both in-branch and across GCF for input and assistance
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of GCF rating tools and pricing methodologies
  • Demonstrate an intermediate level of knowledge of:
  • Contracts and policy forms
  • Pricing structures
  • Terms and conditions
  • Topical underwriting issues
  • Technology and systems
  • Provide clients and internal team members with an intermediate level of underwriting analysis of casualty facultative risks and exposures, requiring varied approaches and tailored solutions
  • Ensure clear, concise and accurate documentation (internal and external)
  • Understand the impact of your underwriting decisions on the expected profitability of the department
  • Seek opportunities to directly influence internal and external constituents on more complex underwriting matters
  • Proactively seek and implement technical underwriting advice from more experienced colleagues
  • Seek opportunities to be involved in research/analysis with Manager/Mentor

Client Service Discipline

  • Handle facultative risks in a timely manner
  • Develop client relationships (existing and prospective) through
  • Understanding and properly servicing client needs
  • Development and execution of client service plans
  • Meeting established and agreed client visit goals
  • Marketing at the underwriter client level for our organization
  • Understand and implement value for value and negotiating (N.O.W) concepts
  • Understand market pricing and market terms and conditions
  • Attend industry and our organization's client events
  • Demonstrate basic presentation and communication skills
  • Provide clients with an appropriate risk solutions
  • Contribute to client growth within the branch

Teamwork and Leadership

  • Provide a quality second head on facultative risk transactions
  • Ensure teamwork within client, branch, cross-branch, cross-unit or project teams by contributing to a positive, supportive and disciplined environment
  • Participate in and contribute to training and coaching initiatives
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuously improve own skills and knowledge and to apply that learning to the branch
