Commercial Claims Specialist 

Job Description
Position Overview:
As a Commercial Claims Specialist, you will be handling all insurance lines of claims for the Commercial Department. You will be responsible for working with the client and insurance company to resolve claims according to best practices and within predetermined authority limits. In this role you will communicate with customers, brokers and insurance companies and be dedicated to handle claims for specific accounts.

  • Two or more years of insurance claims experience with preference given to those with commercial claims background.
  • Strong analytical skills, negotiation skills and communication skills
  • The ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment
  • Superior time management skills
  • Experience in a work environment that requires collaboration across work groups.
  • Ability to effectively present information to manager, customers and insurance companies
  • Document claims files electronically by accurately capturing and updating claims data/information in compliance with best practices.
  • Exercise judgement to determine liability by gathering and analyzing relevant facts
  • Determine policy verification and coverage determination by analyzing applicable coverage for claims and determining whether the loss falls within the coverage.
  • Communicate effectively with the customer, account manager and account executive provide information on resolution of claims, reserves and date of settlement.
  • Negotiate settlement of claim by establishing appropriate negotiation strategy and utilizing available tools and resources within authority limits.
  • Ensure legal compliance by following laws, regulations and internal control requirements.

Required Experience
Qualifications and Experience:

  • College Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Insurance knowledge and experience in Commercial Lines
  • Experience with handling electronic claims
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong customer service orientation (internal and external)
  • Self-starter and strong initiative
  • RIBO License, CIP/CAIB Designation an asset or in progress
  • Computer Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail and ability to manage requirements of the role effectively
  • Effective communication: verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
