Claims Adjuster 

based downtown Toronto

with a global reputable organization 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage inventory of delegated authority claims in multiple LOB, ensuring proactive management of files within company claims handling best practices (file documentation, reserving, payments, and file closure)
  • First point of referral and contact in Canada for claims outside TPA and/or MGA handling authority
  • Provide oversight and guidance to TPA and MGA staff on claims matters including settlement discussions and denials of coverage as appropriate
  • Assist Claims Manager with projects/assignments as needed
  • Prepare large loss notices for branch distribution
  • Collaboration with Underwriting, Accounting and Operations


Single Risk Claims:

  • Manage inventory of direct handle claims, ensuring proactive management of files within company claims handling best practices (file documentation, reserving, payments, and file closure).
  • Investigate, confirm coverage, negotiate settlement and recovery of low/moderate to complex claims
  • Retain and instruct vendors as appropriate (adjusters, experts, counsel)
  • Drive claims towards resolution and negotiate settlements
  • Prepare large loss notices for branch distribution
  • Attend mediations on as required basis
  • Contribute to branch results, ensuring best possible claims outcomes
  • Post-Secondary graduate
  • Completion of CIP an asset
  • 3-5 years of claims handling experience
  • Experience working with independent adjusters and third party administrators
  • Experience in oversight and control of vendors: lawyers, loss adjusters, forensic accountants, forensic investigators, loss mitigation specialists, etc.
  • Technical proficiency in multiple lines of business (coverage, claim evaluations, and reserving)
  • Ability to understand and interpret insurance contracts
  • Ability to fit in with the team, organisational structures and reporting lines
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills
  • Strong organisational skills and capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills demonstrating high degree of professionalism
  • Support Claims Manager in Canada on all matters related to Claims
