Job Description


  • The Bilingual Regional Sales Associate collaborates with the Distribution team members to execute on their respective territory business plan to maximize territory coverage and achieve sales targets by proactively prospecting untapped and dormant opportunities and building upon existing relationships. The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the general supervision of the Director, Inside Sales.

    • Conduct outbound calls to assigned Distribution Partners to uncover needs and promote features and benefits of Empire Life’s Retail products
    • Identify and build new relationships by proactively prospecting untapped and dormant opportunities for an assigned segment of Distribution Partners
    • Drive sales and retention in the insurance and investment markets to ensure defined sales targets are achieved


    Responsibilities include

    • Manage and grow existing relationships, to promote the sale and retention of Empire Life’s Retail products
    • Make daily outbound calls to uncover needs, promote features and benefits of Empire Life’s relevant products, adhering to Empire Life’s prescribed sales process for Retail Distribution
    • Manage case development, liaising with internal partners to ensure product mix meets customer requirements
    • Leverage cross-channel sales opportunities by proactively referring business to appropriate channel
    • Support designated sales team members in the achievement of sales targets and business plan execution
    • Maximize territory coverage by proactively making outbound calls, and responding to inbound calls, to initiate business opportunities and leverage the expertise of the organization
    • Assist with offsite support and presentations and attend industry events, as required
    • Contribute to the development of the annual business plan for an assigned segment of distribution partners, in collaboration with the sales team and management team
    • Execute business plan for an assigned segment of Distribution Partners, monitor activity and reassess regularly, in collaboration with sales team and management team
    • Gather market intelligence and share internally as appropriate 
    • Provide feedback to management on junior team members performance as well as specific input to performance reviews and development plans
    • Build relationships within Empire Life in order to leverage organization in servicing Distribution Partners
    • Make outbound calls to, and ensure appropriate follow-up communication occurs with, an assigned segment of Distribution Partners to educate on business strategies, sales concepts, revenue-generating ideas and Empire Life’s investment products and their benefits and features
    • Provide support of proprietary software to Distribution Partners and MGA administrators by telephone
    • Identify and report potential compliance risk issues that may become apparent through regular contact with Distribution Partners and Financial Advisors
    • Attend industry events, representing and promoting the Empire Life brand; uphold the Empire Life brand within the community at large
    • Enter updates and notes for Distribution Partner data and communication in the CRM tool to capture activity and leverage on previous sales contact within the targeted audience
    • Build and maintain knowledge and understanding of current market trends and competitive landscape, competitor product lines, and Empire Life’s defined sales process and practices for investments and insurance


    Knowledge / Experience / Certification

    • 3+ years of sales, marketing or client relations experience in the financial services industry
    • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Direct sales experience in financial services, an asset
    • Experience in the Canadian broker and investment advisor channel, an asset
    • Solid understanding of investment-related products, including segregated funds, mutual funds, stocks and bonds
    • Solid understanding of Canadian financial markets


    Education / Professional Courses

    • Undergraduate degree required; business major, an asset
    • CSC or IFIC required,  with preference to CSC
    • LLQP and one of the following required: CFA, CLU, CFP, CIM, FMA, ChFC, RHU
