HOWARD MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY is excited to add to our dynamic team.  We are currently looking to fill the role of Business Development Manager. This position is well suited to an individual that has extensive insurance knowledge, hands-on experience and is looking for a career in a thriving and supportive workplace.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for managing and operating the sales and marketing department. The selected candidate will analyze sales opportunities, including product and rate reviews and engage in management team meetings to advance the Company’s Strategic Plan. The Business Development Manager will provide agents guidance and instructions on binding authority and sales techniques, including acquiring new policyholders and evaluating risks.

 

This position will also ensure compliance with Company plans, policies, procedures and standards while controlling and following risk eligibility exposure guidelines and managing expenses. The Business Development Manager will manage ongoing training of the sales and marketing team members, including the development and presentation of product training.

 

Requirements:

  • Post secondary school education or equivalent training and experience
  • CIP designation, including C122
  • Ten (10) years of insurance sales or underwriting experience
  • Knowledge and use of commercial, farm, residential, and automobile risk rating systems
  • General knowledge of:
    • Commercial, farm, residential, and automobile risk evaluation, rating, and procedures
    • Reinsurance procedures
    • Canadian tort litigation
    • Construction techniques
    • Underwriting risk eligibility and assessment practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Office 365, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and insurance software
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation
