Job Description

Working with a leading reinsurance company that is seeking a Reinsurance Data Specialist to join their Reinsurance Life Operations team. The team is responsible for the end-to-end processing of Life and Living Benefits treaties and corresponding client data.

This is a great opportunity for you to join the company’s Center of Excellence and be responsible for ensuring reinsurance data on assigned client accounts is processed with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.

Title: Reinsurance Data Specialist

Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid work arrangement, once a week in the office)

Responsibilities:

  • Develops a sold understanding of client data and ensures the data is translated according to internal stakeholders’ requirements
  • Analyzing the data, product specifications, and treaty parameters to accurately map client plan codes to correct Treaty and product
  • Developing translation specification documents to be used to build mapping logic in the Business Process Management tools.
  • Understanding the different data streams for transaction and the relationship between the data and the Treaty Structure – in force, claims, retro, and billing.
  • Ensuring data meets Quality Control standards for reliable and lasting solutions through peer review of other Specialists work.
  • Assisting business partners (Data Processing, Corporate, Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, and Finance) with inquiries using SQL queries to extract, analyze, and distribute accurate data.
  • Assisting clients and colleagues in addressing data concerns and solving complex reinsurance problems.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain product information and improved quality of data
  • Determining resolution of records that failed validations through root cause analysis, developing and following through on a plan of action for correction. Identifying and escalating financial impacts or business risks to Management.
  • Ensuring cessions fall within treaty and underwriting limits.

 Qualifications: 

  • University Degree and at least 5 - 7 year of applicable Life Reinsurance/Life insurance experience.
  • Proficient in programming languages: SQL experience is mandatory.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Outlook etc)
  • Experience with TAI reinsurance system would be an asset
  • Basic understanding of database structures. Prior ETL experience is an asset
  • Able to resolve routine problems. Progressing towards resolving non routine issues and data related problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Dedicated to meet the expectations and requirements of customers and acting with customers in mind.
