Purpose:

To provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to a Business Units and Underwriters under limited direction and acting as a Subject Matter Expert in personal auto, to enable achievement of business plan and the delivery of excellent customer service.

 

Key Accountabilities

Contribute to the implementation of underwriting strategies (e.g. pricing) and solutions (e.g. product development, filings, underwriting rules and tools and processes) for personal auto.

Develop knowledge in personal auto in the industry, contribute to underwriting technical training content development and delivery

Monitor underwriting strategy relating to performance metrics, data and insights.

Operate within established organization Risk Policy, Global Underwriting Policy and underwriting governance policies.

Contribute to development of technical underwriting guidelines, and Best Practices, including controls and procedures.

Work on projects of low to moderate complexity.

Handle queries within delegated authority.

Support aspects of portfolio management, including analysis to monitor profitability and growth of specialty areas of business, contribute to the Technical Underwriting Review Process.

Participate in compliance-related queries, including regulatory exams and insurance department inquiries.

Interact with partners, anticipate, recognize and respond to needs of customers, support implementation of customer initiatives.

Provide status updates.

Resolve technical problems by referring to policies, procedures, specifications.

Compare alternatives for solving problems or improving procedures or products and provide recommendations.

Provide technical expertise for short-term, defined scope projects.

Business Travel, as required, Extended Hours during Peak Periods, as required,

 

Business Accountabilities

Utilize established financial systems to monitor profitability and growth of specialty areas of business and provide recommendations around aspects requiring change.

Develop a simple business case for a defined project in own area to determine potential benefits, clarify the rationale for investment and support the planning process.

Prepare draft manuals based on the accepted changes to policies, procedures and governance tools, to ensure they are up to-date, reflect new policies and ensure they can be implemented within own work area.

Research primary data sources, select relevant information, analyze key themes and trends and make recommendations to inform policy and/or product development.

Research underwriting best practice and review and analyze detailed underwriting rules to support senior management in developing processes and systems which deliver optimal outcomes for the organization.

Act as technical expert in a process or product area, e.g. development of pricing tools, conducting process reviews and initiating change in order to contribute to continuous improvement of customer services.

Provide specialist underwriting advice to address specific technical queries from peers, internal and external clients and deliver appropriate solutions, in line with the organization´s policies and processes and regulatory requirements. Ensure underwriting follows agreed rules and frameworks and communicates across the organization in order to maintain relationships and provide assurance
