Job Description

We are seeking to employ an IFRS 17 Financial Accountant on contract basis for two years, potentially leading to a full-time permanent position, at Hannover Rück SE Canadian Branch P&C.



This position is responsible for our IFRS17 stabilisation and quarterly/yearly IFRS17 closing after IFRS17 implementation as at 1st January 2023. She or he is also responsible for checking and monitoring the outstanding balance and profit/loss trends through reconciling the financial data, and maintaining the accounting rule of documentations. This role is critical for the company to be able to deliver all necessary IFRS17 requirements.



  • Preparing reports under IFRS 17 for both Hannover Office and local
  • Handling financial disclosure information and profit analytics report under IFRS17
  • Governance for audit trail and accounting rule of documentations
  • Provide efforts in IFRS17 stabilisation
  • Develop ad-hoc financial analysis for management and/or the business, as needed
  • Assist with ad hoc projects
  • Work with actuaries, both external and internal, as well as other key members of the team


What we are looking for:



  • Excellent financial knowledge on IFRS 17/IFRS 9 standards and skills on financial statement closing
  • Excellent financial knowledge on the current IFRS 4/IAS 39 accounting standard
  • Knowledge of P&C2 and reporting to OSFI
  • Excellence in financial system use (Microsoft and other financial programs)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and CPA highly preferred
  • Sufficient experience in financial statement closing of re/insurance business
  • Ability to explain complex financial information to stakeholders including non- financial colleagues
  • Comfortable with fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Communication skills in English
  • All necessary documentation to allow working in Canada
