As the leader of the Insurance Services team, the Vice President, Insurance Services (VP) will be responsible for leading a stellar team of insurance professionals to accomplish all HIROC and HIROC Insurance Services Limited (the Brokerage) Insurance strategy, oversight, and reporting objectives. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the VP will be a member of HIROC’s senior leadership team and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic and operational plans and objectives. Members of HIROC’s leadership team lead their respective departments and also have direct accountability for the leadership of HIROC as a whole.
With these significant leadership opportunities and accountabilities, the successful candidate will have demonstrated effective people and leadership skills and aptitude, excellent communication skills, and be a self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating in a mid-sized agile organization, is process-oriented, and has a strong insurance foundation in Property & Casualty Insurance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will, in addition to their general leadership, strategy and oversight roles, provide comprehensive insurance, underwriting and broking leadership and support to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversight and accountability for the design, negotiation & implementation of comprehensive insurance and risk management programs for healthcare entities and healthcare professional groups nationally.
- Maintaining and developing insurer/reinsurer/stakeholder relationships.
- Negotiating and advocating directly with insurance service providers and other third party stakeholders.
- Liaising with external service providers including actuaries, adjusters, insurers, reinsurers, consultants, lawyers, provincial regulatory commissions, HIROC’s board of directors and Subscribers.
- Accountability for the solicitation of new business opportunities and effective corporate response for those opportunities.
- Leading and supporting the evaluation and development of new products to meet the changing demands of subscribers.
- Oversight and accountability for Insurance Services input into financial statement reporting and annual audit requirements.
- Oversight and accountability in relation to sales, service, underwriting and broking within the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) and the Brokerage and reporting progress of operational targets.
- Other special projects and responsibilities as may arise or be assigned from time to time to achieve HIROC and the Brokerage’s strategic goals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The successful candidate will have:
- Insurance industry experience preferably including P&C (including medical malpractice) insurance.
- Executive-level leadership skills including financial planning, human resources management, organizational development and customer service.
- Strong staff development, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Strong skills in planning and operationalizing complex projects and achieving results.
- An innovative and creative thinker who is open to different approaches to resolve issues.
- Demonstrated leadership initiative and have a desire to learn and develop in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- The ability to partner and communicate effectively with various stakeholders such as the senior leadership group, boards of directors, government organizations and Subscribers.
- Executive presence with polished and well developed written and oral communication skills.
- Experience liaising with Board of Directors, including knowledge and experience of governance best practice standards.
- Strong business acumen, strategic planning, organizational, and creative thinking skills.
- Passion for creating the safest health care system possible for Canadians.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- An unrestricted license from the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) is a must as this individual will be Principal Broker.
- 8+ years of managerial experience.
- At least 10+ years of progressive work experience in insurance industry or equivalent experience.
- Recognized insurance industry designation (Certifications such as CRM, RPLU, CAIB, CIP, FCIP, CCIB).
- At least 10 years direct experience in the Insurance industry with comprehensive knowledge of insurance products, underwriting practices, coverages and competence in strategic planning, operations management, leading teams, and financial reporting.
