Underwriting Manager – Commercial Insurance 

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead a team of ~10 commercial underwriters. This role combines people leadership with technical expertise, providing the opportunity to oversee a team, collaborate with brokers, and contribute to profitable portfolio growth.

As a manager, you will guide a group of underwriters handling mid-market accounts.This is a great opportunity for a senior underwriter, team lead, or specialist ready to step up into management, or for an experienced manager seeking a fresh challenge in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of underwriters at varying levels of experience.

  • Oversee underwriting of mid-market commercial construction and contracting accounts.

  • Collaborate with brokers to deliver customized solutions and strengthen long-term partnerships.

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders including risk services, actuarial, and claims to ensure effective underwriting strategies.

  • Participate in performance management, workforce planning, and development initiatives for your team.

  • Represent the company at broker meetings, industry events, and site visits as required.

  • Contribute to change management initiatives and help shape business development strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience (construction experience is a strong asset).

  • At least 3 years of leadership experience in a team lead, supervisor, or manager role.

  • Strong technical underwriting knowledge in Property & Casualty.

  • Completion of, or progress toward, CIP/FCIP/RPLU designations.

  • Proven ability to build relationships with brokers and clients.

  • A collaborative leadership style, with a passion for coaching and developing others.
