Role Description
The Liability Claims Specialist in Commercial Automobile provides essential claims service and is accountable for managing a portfolio of commercial automobile third party property damage and bodily injury files. This role includes confirming coverages, investigating claims, evaluation of liability and quantum, settlement negotiations, mediations, pre-trials, and litigation management. The Specialist will ensure timely and accurate handling of documentation, coordinate communication with internal and external stakeholders, and uphold strict compliance with privacy and audit standards.
Responsibilities:
• Complete daily tasks using FIS (internal claims system) and email systems.
• Follow up with external stakeholders (e.g., claimants, external vendors, lawyers) to obtain documentation or updates.
• Compile and analyze claimant medical files for external treatment providers and legal counsel.
• Ensure accuracy, privacy compliance, and secure handling of sensitive documents.
• Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and audit regulations.
• Assist in coaching and mentoring of junior staff.
• Direct and instruct defence counsel.
Qualifications:
• University degree, college diploma in Business Insurance or related discipline or CIP designation
• Minimum 5 years experience handling both US and Canadian bodily injury claims
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Experience mentoring
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy standards
• Proficient with administrative systems, Windows applications and Outlook
• Comfortable managing high-volume documentation workflows
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with commercial automobile claims is an asset.
