The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Senior Specialist, Large Complex Commercial Underwriting to join their commercial underwriting team. This role is ideal for a highly experienced underwriting professional who brings deep technical expertise in large, complex commercial lines business and enjoys developing tailored solutions for accounts that fall outside standard underwriting frameworks.
This position will focus on underwriting and servicing highly complex casualty-driven commercial risks, including layered and shared placements, customized coverage structures, and non-standard exposures. The successful candidate will work closely with broker partners and internal stakeholders to deliver thoughtful underwriting solutions while balancing sound judgment, technical discipline, and business objectives.

About You
You are a seasoned commercial underwriting professional with significant experience handling large, complex casualty and commercial lines accounts. You are comfortable assessing technical exposures, navigating exceptions and referrals, and building customized underwriting solutions that align with both client needs and organizational standards.
You bring a strong broker-facing presence and are confident negotiating terms, structuring coverage, and communicating underwriting positions clearly and effectively. You are also viewed as a technical resource by internal business partners and are comfortable providing guidance on risk selection, wordings, coverage intent, and account strategy.
In addition to your underwriting expertise, you bring leadership capability through mentoring, coaching, and supporting others across the team. You enjoy working collaboratively and contributing to consistent underwriting practices across a broader organization.
Necessary Qualifications Include
• 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience
• Demonstrated experience underwriting large, complex casualty accounts, including tailored coverage structures and non-standard exposures
• Experience underwriting risk-managed or loss-sensitive casualty programs
• Experience underwriting large commercial auto and fleet accounts considered a strong asset
• Exposure to layered, shared, or subscription casualty placements considered an asset
• Experience with manuscript or customized policy wordings considered an asset
• CIP or FCIP designation completed or in progress
• Strong customer service and broker relationship management skills
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and negotiation abilities
• Leadership capability, including coaching and mentoring others
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to clearly document underwriting rationale and support decision-making
• Team-first mindset with a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach
