Established in England in 1887 by churchmen to insure Church of England property, Ecclesiastical has grown to be a worldwide presence in the insurance industry with offices in Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The Company has diversified into international and non-church business including commercial property and liability, personal lines and reinsurance. Owned by a charitable trust, the Company occupies a niche within the industry. Apart from funds needed to develop the business, its profits have been distributed year by year through grants to its principal church customers. The Canadian Branch opened in Toronto in 1972 and is the largest component of our parent company's business outside the UK. True to our roots, we continue to be a leader in the field of church insurance in Canada. As a niche insurer, we have also developed a wide range of commercial and marine coverages. The Canadian branch is licensed to write business in every province and has established offices in Halifax, Calgary and Vancouver. We are represented across the country by a large independent force of brokers and agents.
