The Opportunity
As a Claims Advisor – Bodily Injury, you will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex bodily injury claims while ensuring fair outcomes for all parties involved. You will work closely with legal counsel, medical professionals, and internal stakeholders to effectively manage claims from initial investigation through final resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of casualty and bodily injury claims from intake through settlement.
- Confirm policy coverage, determine liability, and verify entitlement to coverage.
- Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex claims in accordance with company guidelines.
- Review medical documentation, treatment plans, and supporting evidence to accurately assess damages.
- Negotiate settlements directly with claimant counsel.
- Attend mediations, examinations, questioning, arbitrations, and litigation proceedings as required.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of all claim activity.
- Collaborate effectively with internal departments, legal counsel, medical professionals, and other external stakeholders.
- Support the claims team by assisting with overflow files during periods of high volume.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Extensive experience handling Bodily Injury claims.
- Experience with Commercial General Liability (CGL) and Personal Liability policies.
- Demonstrated experience with mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, common injuries, treatment plans, and recovery timelines.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, investigative, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Post-secondary education and/or completion of, or progress toward, a CIP or FCIP designation is considered an asset.
- Experience handling multi-jurisdictional losses is an asset.
- Experience with Guidewire is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Alberta Automobile Policy, Traffic Safety Act, and Minor Injury Regulation is preferred.
